Postby Friday » Mon May 23, 2011 5:18 pm

Just wanted to introduce myself and my business to you. My name is Steve I own a 66 bronco named Friday that is a resto-modification in progress. I also own Front Range Custom Coatings (or rather it owns me). FRCC does custom flooring applications and bed liners.
I plan on offering some specials this summer on bed liners to my fellow Colorado Classic Broncos members. Of course i'll post some details on the special in the very near further. In the mean time, you can check out my website: FrontRangeCustomCoatings.com. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a PM or email me through my website. Thanks for looking!

The Bronco is named Friday because that was the one day I had set aside to do the restoration on it. At the time I worked Sun - Thurs. and looked forward to my Friday's working on the Bronco. I have a build thread on CB.com I'll have to find the link and post it up. I'ts 90% done, just needs about 50-60 hrs devoted and 1000.000 and Friday will be cruising the town.

Hey, welcome Friday! How do the Vortex coatings compare to Line-X, Rhino, etc? What is the difference?

That story is way cooler story when people say their car breaks down because it was made on Friday.

Let me tell you why I started this business. I was looking to get my Bronco tub sprayed with a bed liner and I knew of Vortex from a friend who owns a metal finishing business. That friend had a chemical storage tank lined with Vortex and it worked very well for him. (In fact, that same friend referred a manufacturing company in the springs to me to have a secondary containment room sprayed. Just yesterday, I completed the project and they have asked for additional quotes on other areas as well.)

When it came time to have my tub done I tried to find the guy who sprayed the tank for my friend but he had moved out of state for his primary job. I could not justify the price that Rhino and LineX quoted me, so I did it myself with a bed liner product sold at Sherwin Williams Automotive Paint store. I immediately hated it! It was a solvent based product, did not build the way I wanted it to. It was applied with a “shutz” gun and looked like the heavy orange peel texture you would find on your home walls. Lastly, the black was more of a blotchy, faded dark brown. Needless to say I was not at all happy with the results. So it got a cote of black paint over it on Sherwin Williams’s dime. Not the best fix but a temporary relief to my sanity.

I wanted to fix the problem and I started looking for a vortex dealer and was not able find one anywhere nearby. It was then that I started looking into starting a business for myself. I found that the vortex system enabled me to do more than just bed liners, I can take my business to people rather than them have to come to me and I can do a wide variety of applications because it's portable.

So here is the lowdown on Vortex:
Vortex is a hybrid utilizing both polyurea (line X) and polyurethane (Rhino). Polyurethanes are known for their superior durability and chemical resistance characteristics. Polyurea is known for its high build and impact resistance.

When compared to other spray in liners namely Linex and Rhino, Vortex is in-between the two as far as hardness and texture. LineX is very hard with a micro fine texture. Rhino, is softer, more rubber like with a more “globby” texture. Vortex is in the middle, not completely hard like Linex, but not "soft" like Rhino and you can adjust the texture to match the customer’s preference. I have done repair jobs for my friend who owns an auto body shop on customer rigs that have had LineX and the panels (tailgates and bedsides) that I spray match up very well.
I cannot knock Rhino or LIneX they are both very good products, but just like all spray in liners, they are only as good as the prep and installer!

Incidentally, my Bronco still is without its Vortex liner - kind of like a plumber faucet always leaks because he has no time to work on his own stuff.

Thanks, good explanation! I really appreciate that you don't come at this with a "everyone else is crap" kind of attitude.

x2 on Justin's comment.

Steve, good to see you on the board. I picked up a soft top bracket from you last year I think. Met you down off of Fillmore.

Would love to see some shots of the Vortex product applied. I'll likely be picking up a Super Duty very soon and would like to get the bed done, at a minimum. Also looking for a good product to shoot in to the entire inside of my Bronco tub.

Yep, I remember you. How's that riser working out for you? I would love the opportunity to earn your business. Here are a few pics of projects that I have done related to the two projects that you mentioned.

Here are some logos another dealer did (not my work) but a good example of what can be done.

Riser went with the truck to Nashville earlier this year. Worked out great when I had it though.

Love the wrap around on the taillights. Thinking that might be something I would incorporate on the Superduty, not so much on the Bronco.

Looks like a good product.

Those pictures were done by another Vortex dealer as stated. I posted these as examples of what can be done. It's a specialty thing but some may be interested in customizing their application to their liking.
