Tapatalk ads

Postby akaFrankCastle » Fri Aug 22, 2014 8:27 am

In the last week I've been getting an ad for Interstate Batteries popping up in my unread topics list. At first I thought it was a thread but then when I tried to open it I figured out it was not.

Is anyone else seeing ads in their Tapatalk? If so, how badly is it annoying you?

My personal opinion is that Tapatalk is a pay for use app. As such, it should be free of advertising. If the developers want to develop a free version and saturate it with advertising, that's their business.

If enough people are annoyed at the idea of advertising in a pay for use app, I'll contact the app developers and notify them that we'll be removing the plug in from the site unless the remove the advertisements. However, if anyone objects to that then we'll let things roll as is.

Yes annoyed, the ads showed up after the last update, time to down grade I guess. I've taken the stance now that I'm DONE updating any apps or OS until it stops functioning.

While I agree with you 1000%, I would be really bummed to see Tapatalk go away. I use it for 90+% of my forum surfing. Using my my computer makes wiping clumsy.

Haven't seen them yet on my android phone yet. I would be annoyed too since I paid for the app.

I think removing the plugin might be a little rash. I was mostly irritated when I wrote that. But it might also serve as a decent piece of brinksmanship if/when contact with the developers is made. Especially if several sites are on board.

Are you guys on iPhone? I'm not seeing the ads on the Android version.

Looks like you may be able to turn them off:

I need to dig in to this a bit more to find out what the hell is going on. It looks as if, according to the link Justin posted, that we should be able to opt out of advertising. The problem is that our site is not linked to the Tapatalk dashboard which gives us the option to opt out. I'll likely need to uninstall the Tapatalk plugin and reinstall from their site to give us that option.

Sorry Mike!

Good news. Maybe. After battling technology for the better part of the afternoon, I think I have eliminated advertisements in the Tapatalk app. If anyone, except Justin, notices any additional advertisements, please let us know in this thread.

Tapatalk updated their app and I absolutely hate it. I have not figured a way to see the sections so you can see which ones have unread posts.

I'm on iOS- anyone else using the "new" Tapatalk?

I go by the rule of not updating apps until my phone won't lie me use the old versions anymore. That being said, my new phone should be here by Friday. If no one has found a solution by then, I'm sure I'll be in the same boat and will see if I can find an answer.
