Ford Galaxie or Fairlane for Maddy

Postby Rox Crusher » Tue Oct 06, 2015 2:17 pm

Maddy has decided she wants a cool classic car.

She really likes 1966 Fairlane or galaxie but her favorite is 67 galaxie.

So I'm on the slow prowl for a project that would ideally have come with small block rather than FE motor.

The plan would be to transplant 5.0 and harness from my Bronco and get a 2WD 4R70W to put in the hot rod.

Which clears the way for me to get going on 351 OBDII for the Bronco.

Let the fun begin.

There's one in my neighbor's yard.Been sitting for years. It's an FE car.Could be had pretty cheap I think.
If you were to put a Crown Vic front end and a small block in it would be bad ass.

Pick up a used P71 police interceptor and have a cool ride for pretty cheap.

I showed her the ad for that one in Boulder and she likes it. At 2500 I could certainly do some motor mount mods for small block

Here's a '67 in Ault with a small block. I think he's asking a little too much for a non-running car.

https://fortcollins.craigslist.org/cto/5223919561.html

There's also this one. It's a big block, but also a 500XL. A little more reasonable.

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/5216924366.html

Love the Galaxies. One of my dream cars is a '66 7 Litre. Drove a '65 post coupe in high school and almost bought a 63 1/2 XL before I bought my Bronco.

Love the old falcons, and the novas. Any of those shoebox hot rods. IF I ever get my Bronco restored, and look for another project after, it'll be something in that realm.

Big block though...looks to be a 390. Has air and is a more restore-able type. Love the color.

All I know is that if I see a 16 year old girl driving that thing, I will be driving or running as fast as I can in the opposite direction. That thing takes up some serious space and for a first time driver-- I hope those bumpers are made out of rubber!!

Eck, your sounding like my wife. She is totally against the idea of getting a classic for her. Maddy and I out voted her. Plus it will get hydro boost brakes and all new steering linkage, etc.

Meanwhile, I'm not very familiar with these cars but trying to learn. Does anyone know what is involved in putting a small block / Windsor in a car that originally came with a big block / FE ?

The FE is considerably bigger but I'm wondering if it is as simple as different motor mounts or an a dapter kit like Johnny Cash used ?

If it's that simple it really creates options for me. I could take the FE 390 and C6 and stuff it into the 57 Fairlane, put the 5.0 out of my Bronco in the Galaxie, and put that bad ass 351 in my Bronco.

Man, that sounds like a lot of work doesn't it ?

My vote is for a falcon. Love these cars. another plus is they share the same chassis as the 65-66 mustang so parts are plentiful. And they are not a land yacht.

I gotta agree here. These things are great to work on and they are "stylin" (my old 66 Futura Sport)

When I was a teenager I wanted a land yacht so I could transport all my school books. I definitely didn't use all that room to transport kegs, drunk friends, and NO WAY would I ever use that space for....hanky panky!
