THIS JUST IN Turns out that a 1" body lift, combined with a heavy duty fender washer, allows me to use the stock hood after all. I need to tweak a few little things under the hood to help the throttle position sensor clear but that ain't nuttin budda thang at this point. Thank you evil body lift ! image.jpeg |

Looks good! It wouldn't be hard to do. I'll look at my grill tonight and try to figure something out. I only have 16g metal right now, sort of tough to work with. I need to get my hands on some 18g, just hate to pay Gunnison prices. |

So the body lift is on, the shifter linkage has been extended, the fan shroud has been removed for a little bit of re-work, and the floor has been trimmed to allow the twin sticks to function. Started it up and it was making a helluva racket. Sounded like it was coming from bell housing area so quickly shut it down. Sounded like the flex plate or torque converter nuts were hitting the block plate. Thought I might have messed something up with the shifter linkage or transfer case which I forgot to double check before starting it. On top of this, it has been leaking oil pretty good at the pan - front and rear. We thought it was leaking up front and running along the flange of the pan and then down the back of the pan and block plate. Thought it might be a bad stroke of luck and maybe the rear main seal had popped out somehow and was getting chewed up and making that awful noise. I tried starting it several times in gear, neutral, transfer case in neutral and the noise remained. Took the trans inspection plate off and everything up there looked awesome. The noise was rotational but the crossover tube had been touching the inspection cover so I took it off. Still the noise remained. Really loud and perplexing. Was starting to think something had gone "Eck-ish" in the motor. I stood at the front of the Bronco, placed my head on the radiator, arms draped into engine bay grasping at straws / ideas. My hands fell on the fan and I gave it a spin and it was hitting / hanging up on the lower radiator hose as the shroud was no longer there to keep it away. Zip tied the hose and started it up and noise was no longer there. They say it can be better to be lucky, than good. I'm a believer ! |

Well, I put a good 50 miles on it this evening. Love the motor ! Never got over 193. Oil pressure of 47 while running, 19 at idle. Fuel pressure 62 PSI while riding, drops to 55 at WOT. Got a check engine light when I fired it back up after checking oil level and it is still leaking at rear of pan. More opportunities to tinker I guess. |

Drove it up 470 in the afternoon heat yesterday (85) and it got as hot as 221. I guess I better get my fan shroud figured out soon. |
