A little more on intakes. Longer runners in the intake = More torque, correct? That would leave just a few options GT40 variations, Edelbrock performer, and Trick flow. Any others I'm missing? Didn't they used to sell adaptors that went between the head and intake so you could run a 5.0 intake on a 5.8? Its been a few years since I have seen them and Google is not helping so I guess no one makes them anymore or maybe they just didn't work that well. I have plenty of time to find what I need but I want to compile a list so I can jump on good deals as they come up. |

GT40 lowers are out there, some are even cheap, Zack spotted one under $300 a few months back. |

Well, there won't be any going back now! With a lot of help from Kevin, I brought home a 96 5.8L from an F150. Kevin was nice enough to bring his work truck with a 10,000 lb crane so loading and unloading was a snap. Once it was home and on the engine stand, I put the boy on the pressure washer and let him get it cleaned up. Cleaning revealed that the engine was a Ford " Reconditioned" engine dated 2000. I'll pull the intake and heads tomorrow and see what it looks like. |

We broke it down and I was happy to see the dog bones on the lifters indicating that it had roller lifters, I was a bit concerned about what would be in there after we found it was a reman engine. How can I be sure if this thing has been bored or not? I believe that the pistons were marked 30 over on my other 351 but I don't see that on this engine. It all looks pretty good overall but it did have a surprise n the oil pan. I found a small bolt with a nut on it and a small hose clamp in there. How the hell does that happen? One of the photos is a bit dark but if you look close , you can see the bolt and clamp that was in the pan. |

I went back to the junkyard today with Kevin in search of a set of GT40 heads. We found a set but ended up passing on them because of the engine condition. We pulled the intake and found 3/4" of oil sludge under it. We did pull the serpentine stuff to use on the boys Bronco but I the heads seemed like too much risk. I find Explorers often enough that I'll hold out for something better. I did at least score a set of #24 injectors from another vehicle. |

Does that bolt look like one that comes out of a carb and goes through an air cleaner to hold it on? Peter |

You can drop them off or I can bring all the goodies over there to get it out. Heat it up a little then spray the panther piss on it so it can soak into the threads. |
