Project Retro Wheeler - 1976 Bronco

Postby pgilbeau » Sat Jul 29, 2017 1:08 pm

A couple buddies and I have been talking about the idea of some retro wheeling, basically no lockers, smaller tires, etc. That being said my other Bronco doesn't fit into that category so I was on the hunt. Trying to keep it cheap so made a deal to save this one. All I know at the moment is its a '76 that had the HD package. Plans are going to be a LUBR, 302, 33's on steelies, etc. I am planning to do as much of this one as I can on my own and with a minimal budget.

Fun! Do you have to retain the stock suspension?
1973 Bronco, 351 SEFI, Locked, discs, 35's ZF-5spd and Atlas 4spd. 235:1 Crawl Ratio. It may be ugly, but it's slow.

The proposed rules so far:

limited slip/mechanical lockers are okay
33" max tire size
Steel wheels or era specific slots, turbines, etc.
Must be street legal
Era specific winch (i.e. Warn 8274)
Stock concept suspension

Very cool project I bet that 76 with just minor upgrade will be a blast to 4wheel.

Thanks! Those pics don't show the whole story but I think I have it covered. There is no motor, no grille, and the front floors and quarters need replaced. Plan for now is to use what I've got. I am going to use what I can from the '76 F-150 I was parting out, parts I can grab from it are going to be the steering box, NP-435, and front axle which will be narrowed to EB width. For a motor I plan to take the 302 from my other Bronco once I get the 351W done and put in.

Did my good deed for the day, put a front end under it, some wheels and tires and took her home.

Forgot this pic of the interior, got some rust repair to take care of. Check out the door panel.
