95 F150 A/C not working

Postby Eck » Fri Jun 08, 2018 12:31 pm

I’ve checked fuses and they are good. Blower works but it blows hot air. Anyone know what steps to take to check for why the A/C doesn’t work?

My guess is the compressor isn't turning. Could be clutch problem or no current to activate it. No current could be due to low pressure in the system. There is a pressure switch that will allow the compressor to run only if there is good pressure in the system. That switch could be bad or you may have a small leak.

Thanks. Is there a way to check the switch or for a leak? Or to even see if the compressor is turning?

hey Mike like they are saying you need to verify that you have a proper charge in the system a start working out from there.

You can probably check the switch easily. Just check both sides for 12v. If it's only on one side then you should have the pressure checked by someone who knows what they're doing.

Don't use parts store recharge kits with stop leak in them. There is no way to get that glue out of the system and it will plug up a.c. machines. A.c. shops will test for the glue before hooking up their machines. If it has glue in it they probably won't work on it.

I've disconnected the lo pressure harness the turn the engine and a/c on and using a jumper wire (briefly) jumper the harness just to see if the compressor starts more than likely you have low Freon if the compressor starts. Good Luck

Vipers way is probably more sensible (but then I would have to put my  down to use a multimeter)

Tried to jump the switch and I can’t tell if the compressor is kicking on. Air definitely wasn’t getting colder. My multi-meter is dead and I don’t have a battery for it so couldn’t check voltage to the switch.

You should be able to hear the compressor kick on. You'll usually hear a click or snap type noise when the clutch engages. and the engine speed will change a little.

You can see whether it is turning or not. The inside of the pulley does not rotate when A/C is not cycling.

Center of pulley should cycle on and off with A/C on.

I would guess you have a leak and have lost enough freon that the low pressure switch will not let the comp engage.
