Now: The Old School Super Duty

For all the Fords that aren't Broncos

Some people's kids...

I sent this guy an email on Saturday to let him know I was interested. Followed up with a phone call on Sunday. Another email on Sunday evening. Got a phone call back at 11:45pm on Sunday night which I did not take because my phone is silent after 9:30pm. Found an email reply on Monday morning in which the seller stated he would call me back on Monday. No call. Since then, I've tried calling six times (no voice mail active on the line, despite it being an iPhone) and have written another six emails. At this point, I'm ready to call it quits on this truck. Which is a damn shame because it is absolutely perfect for what I want.

Drives me nuts when people don't respond also! If you're selling something, you should be ready to speak to people and not at weird hours.

Nice!

I like the Expo idea too. I would love to build an earth roamer. One day.

That red one might have belonged to a guy up here in Greeley. He had assembled all the parts for a diesel conversion but was looking to sell it all before he actually did the swap. He worked at a body shop so that one was clean. His name was Carlos and he is a Bronco guy, in fact he came with me to the Johnsons corner breakfast 2 years ago. I believe he has since moved to loveland. I'll see if i still have his number on the off chance he still has it.

I know this isn't a super duty, but what is something like this worth? 1968 F150 all original, 390 , 4 speed with granny low, original paint, original interior in great shape.

Not bad. 2wd though. Running and driving I'd say 2k plus. The 2wds aren't really that popular so you can usually score them cheaper. And being a CCLB, that thing probably measure fuel economy in kmpg instead of mpg.

Yeah. It's looks to be pretty well cared for. That's rare for a crew cab. Most of them were bought to beat to death. Or so it seems from their condition today.

I'd convert that F350 to 4wd. That's minor considering the drivetrain swap you have planned.

Yes and no.

My hope is that I can find a rolling chassis, at a minimum, to build off of. If possible, with a D60 already under the front. The right deal could be had for at around 2k. If I were to go 2WD and convert, I'd be stuck with a D44 front, most likely, until I could find a D60 front. And then that D60 is going to cost me an additional 1k on top of whatever I pay for the truck.

Additionally, the PS box on the 2WD trucks mounts in a different position than the 4x4 trucks.

The fabrication for the diesel swap is as "easy" as two new cross members and some core support work.

Most of the people that convert the 2WDs buy a donor 4x4, chop the front of the frame, and graft it to their existing back end. I think this goes back to the different frame widths between the 4x4 and 2WD and issues with spring pad placement on the axles.

Boy, I don't know that you can buy a cheap, yet clean truck and do the swap for that money...

I don't see an innercooler, which you can always add, but aside from that...she's a gem! I'd much rather have a ZF5, or even better, a ZF6 in it, but at least he has the option with the under drive.

Think hard on that one my friend!

That last picture should be quite concerning to potential buyers. All that rust just bubbling up everywhere under the paint. Pretty shoddy work, especially for how much they're asking.

She's a 20ft'er for sure, but it'd need stripped and repaired with new paint, maybe even wet sand it a bit so it doesn't look like a huge orange peel!
