That is a strange one! Does the radio manf. have any input?

Short story is I only have issue on Bluetooth and/or SD card playback of music. The music play back skips with ignition cycles. The FM radio works great. I have bench tested everything and it works fine. It has nothing to do with the wiring to the stereo. I took a spare battery and placed it on the floor. Hooked just the stereo to it and added computer speakers to the head unit. That left me with the stereo physically in the bronco(not mounted just resting) but completely isolated from the bronco power/wiring and still had an issue.
This is a video of what is happening.

I think that statement is telling of the problem. Those are digital modes vs FM which would like be analog circuitry and therefore more noise resistant. (this is why FPV drone fliers still use analog signals) I hate to say it, but the problem probably lies in the circuit design of the unit. If the engineers knew this or even suspected it, I doubt they are at liberty to tell you. Noise could be coming from any external wire, because they act as antennas even when not connected to the truck, or something on the circuit board, like a long trace, is acting like an antenna. Things could be cleared up with more shielding and internal noise controls, but that that is beyond the end-user.Short story is I only have issue on Bluetooth and/or SD card playback of music.

That sounds like you have done a good job with the diagnostics.I think that statement is telling of the problem. Best you could do is carefully shield the entire head unit and run shielded and twisted pair wires everywhere. But if the noise is coming in on the FM antenna, there is nothing that can be done about that.
One other thing you could try is transferring the head unit to another gas-powered vehicle (no diesel), wiring it up with a battery and computer speakers and see if the problem reoccurs. If not, then you should focus on suppressing the noise the Bronco is creating. If the noise persists, return the head unit and buy a different one.

Eck wrote:Replaced the alternator. I’ve been chasing a “dying” battery for a while now. Seems I would charge it, drive a few places, Bronco would sit for a couple weeks and the battery would be drained when I go to start it again.
The last few days I’ve been driving it a bit around town and I’m actually shocked it didn’t die sooner. Noticed today that the volts were at 11.1 on my way home from picking up some hard to find Eagle Rare bourbon.
I took it in to Oreilly and they tested it, and it failed immediately. So in goes the new one with a lifetime warranty.

No- my battery doesn’t have side posts. Can you forward me that article though? I’ve also been having all sorts of charging issues with my popup camper battery and everything is hooked to the side posts on that and now I’m wondering if that could be my issue?Rox Crusher wrote:Eck wrote:Replaced the alternator. Is your winch wired to side posts on battery by chance ?
I recently read that they changed how batteries with side posts are built and that side posts shouldn’t be used for heavy draw accessories as it ruins the battery

The old gas in the Broncos was stinking up the new shop so bad I had to drain the tanks.
There wasn't much in the 74.
The 72 hasn't been run in probably 10+ years. The aux tank was almost empty, but there was probably 3-4 gallons in the main tank.

Oof that's rough. What does one do with that once it's drained? Asking because I need to do the same with mine when I move back to CO next month
