Didn't do anything per se, but I did go and pickup a '98 Explorer 4R70W tranny in Sedalia for a steal:)

What do you guys use to hold these things while you rebuild them?

Got the cooling system completed with the addition of an aux temp gauge. I also replaced the radiator cap, which turned out to be a big mistake as I pissed fluid out all the way to work this evening. I will pick up a new on before the drive home in the am. Not sure why this happened but I went back on with a stant cap!! Jayson

Drove it...changed oil in transfer case...checked rear dif fluid...still a loud squealing while I drive. Any ideas...I noticed a couple grease fittings missing on u-joints. Also thought maybe the wheel bearings...I do know it's not the brakes.

Is that a gear you used as the knob? Looks cool....is it soft? Is that a light you installed overhead?

Phil....did you happen to get my email on the 4r70w?

No, the gear is not soft. It's actually from a C4 planet assembly. I've been wanting to make these for years. The light is really cool. It has a 20 foot retractable cord and a magnetic base on the bulb. I can reel it out and stick it to anywhere on or under the Bronco.

Nice work Viper! My grandma gave me an old light like that. I think I still have it in my truck! Totally different design, but same principle. I like the gear design for the window crank!

I "accidentally" found a new can of black DupliColor undercarriage coating in the garage yesterday and like any good Bronco owner, instantly thought about the wheel wells. 10 minutes later both the rears were perfectly black:) Completely changes the look. Attempted to do the fronts and realized I'd have to remove the tires. That got me to thinking about the rake my Bronco has....so called Melissa at the Hut and inquired on some 3.5" coils to correct it. Dana will bring them up tomorrow:)

Put the new trans filter w/stock pickup tube from WH in, new gasket and fluids and so far no more leaks! Drove it around the block a few times and it was great. First time I've been able to drive it in months. Got the door latches put back in and the doors all put back together. Really nice to finally have working locks, latches and handles on both sides! Started looking into the next issues that I need to tackle but it was a really great feeling to at least have it back on the road again.

Resealed the 9" and the D44. Had to weld on some new metal on the front GLO cover as it'd been wore down from the rocks. Also found a problem with my rear brakes (started a thread), but I think I have the one resolved. Now all I lack to get it back going is a little more gear oil and a new driveshaft u-joint strap (what's a good source for those?). It was nice to work on the bronco for a change. Just hard to make the time these days.

Found a broken window pillar on the drivers side up front, and my neighbor welded it up which took care of an annoying rattle. It was real pain getting the front window out, and then back in. I have been driving it to work on a regular basis. Jayson

I had to reinforce my driver's side, exterior door latch rod. It keeps bending above & below the reinforcement sleeve. Nothing exciting there, just welded some 1/4-20 all thread across the weak spots. Sorry no pics.

Then I thought (never a good thing), while I'm in there. I might as well get rid of the parchment arm rests & metal door panels. They clash with my new seats. I must say, I am a bit jealous of the speaker pods. But continuing my "Summer of doing anything & everything cheap or free", I used what I had around.

First I cleaned & shot my inside door handle cups & arm rests with adhesion promoter. Then painted the arm rests with some vinyl spray paint we had at the shop & the cups with trim black.
Image
Then cut some foam to match the panel (we get GM bumpers packed in this stuff):
Image
And glued it to the door panel:
Image
Then used some 3M #77 spray adhesive & glued on some speaker cabinet carpet I've had for years. I added Q-pads to help quiet the doors as well.
Image
Image
I also made a new panel liner out of the same foam sheet & spray glued it to the door before installing the newly, cheaply, refreshed door panels:

Really didn't do all this today, but got the door panels installed. My new seats may inspire me to fix up my interior finally.

Hey Chad, I am looking into lining my ammo can with some foam to cushion the plastic oil and antifreeze containers and hopefully keep them from splitting. Would this foam work well for that?

Probably, its about 1/8"+ thick. Its nothing special, we get other brands of bumpers in other types of padding that would work too, heavy duty bubble wrap or other kinds of foam. Stop by any bodyshop and there is probably tons of it in the garbage.

Sorry to hear about your turbo. Next time I have my air filter off, I need to see what condition mine is in. If you have to replace, no time like the present to upgrade...

Today's menu on my bronco is to install new caliper, finish filling front diff with oil, and see if I can find a subject to help me bleed brakes. Then she'll be driveable again! Then I need to look at wheel bearings on my tow rig...
