Found this when I pull the right axle. The lock collar will fall off, the bearing is tight but has moved. This is the second time this has happened on the right side. With 2 different axles . Housing looks good. |

Ive heard of people tacking the lock collar in place to keep that from happening. May need to look at just replacing the axle. It could be worn from a previous bearing issue. |

You should replace the axle. The retaining collars I've measured have .010" interference with the axle, which is a lot and takes 10-12 ton of force to install. It should never fall off. Welding should be an emergency option only. Axle shafts are medium carbon steel and have high hardenability. Welding on them will cause the base metal in the HAZ (heat affected zone) to become very hard due to air-quenching. This can lead to cracks which will cause the weld or axle to fail. Do you have a pair of calipers to measure the axle and retaining sleeve with? Maybe a new sleeve could be made that was undersized to match that axle. It would be much safer. |

I just grabbed a axle from on of the other Broncos ( thats why we have more than one Bronco, ready parts supply). When It is time to get Henry back on the road I plan on upgrading the rear axle and carrier. But I will mic it. |
