So you impulsively decide to take the top of your bronco on a warm summer day, sounds like a good idea right? WRONG. It may look cool, it may feel nice, BUT WRONG. Just letting you all know, not for the faint of heart...getting her off and on is a challenge..and even more challenging without breaking anything

Yeah, the real crux is the damn pegs on the to that go down in the corner posts. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for those buggers.

Can you say.....Soft Top? :)

Completely agree......Ours had never been removed before when we took it off last year. Would have made for a good America's Funniest Home Videos skit with me bent over underneath it trying to wiggle those rear posts out and then expecting my 5'2" 103lb wife to be able to receive it on the floor....good times.

I've had my top off and on many many times over the years. Any time I'm going to change it, I invite 3 or 4 good friends over, get the bronco out in a flat, wide open area. I'd have some 2x4's ready to help provide leaverage. I used to have a couple cut to just the right length so I could sit one up on the inside, put a crow bar across the top, and gently pry up the corner posts then slip a short 2x4 between the top and the bronco so people's hands don't get crushed.

It used to take only about 10 minutes to take it off or put it on with some strong backs around. The part I hated the most was doing all those bolts.

We'll see how long it takes now that it's sat for 5 years.

I am thinking I will build up some sort of pully system and hang it from the rafters.

I built a pulley system before I took mine off the first time. Makes it easier but still somewhat of a fight doing it solo.

Here is my setup:

If it wasn't for the roll cage, I could get this off myself. But for now, I need one or two more strong guys to help me lift it off and set it on the 2x4's.

Pulled mine off sunday night, what a pain. Had aspirations of hanging it in the garage, but turned out placing it on a stand outside and strapping it down so the wind didn't get it. Jp

Ours has been hanging in the garage since 93. With open rafters we turned it over and it slides right up in there like a glove. I had pics some where.

my set-up is like JD's - I put four big eye-bolts in the ceiling studs and then hung 4 ratchet straps from the ceiling. I just back her into place and put the hooks on four corners and ratchet it up a couple inches then pull out. I do it alone easily.
