Post Rear Axles dead (Lucy).....what to do!
Been a while since I posted (many apologies for being a slacker...I'll blame that on life)!

Did get some bronco time this weekend. Got the motor to "Tina" back together and painted, and then tore into the other bronco (Lucy...which no longer works either rant ). Looks like a bad wheel bearing. Doesn't look like the axles are much good, but would love some more opinions. They are thinking about 125.00 to get the old bearings off and press the new stuff on (don't have the capability at home).

Currently running 3:50 gears and no locker. Looking at prices seems I might as well go big if the axles are shot. If not need to find another way to get bearings on and off. With that being said...anyone got any ideas for the cheap fix, so I can play this summer. I think they might last a while longer banghead !

So the question: If they are no good...go big and do the 31 spline and the gears(thinking 4:11's) and lockers I have always wanted? I have been all over the catalogs and can't see much good in fixing these if they are broke or will be soon. If I go this route....I'm thinking locker and 31 splines in the rear and the same for the front. I'm definitely on a budget, so a bit stuck in the head....do it once right....do it later banghead !

What do you guys think I can do this for reasonably, or would you just put new bearings on and roll with it?

Any thoughts?

As always...thanks for the help and have a blast this weekend (can't make it...helping the family at the youth camp).

Here are some pics...

Matt

Those axles look ok to me. I'd put new bearings on then rebuild your limited-slip and use it until you break something.

Thanks Guys....that is the answer I was hoping for :)!

I think I'll just put bearings on and go with it for now.

Dan...thanks for the offer...I may take you up on it if I can't get those pressed locally!

I am sure you can find another 4x4 guy in the Ft. to help you. Might post up on CO4x4 for help. Or even call Scotty at Addicted Offroad and see if he could help you.

Got the bearings popped off today, and picked up new ones. Should be good to go. Thanks for the advice on shops and Addicted. I actually work in Windsor and thought of them. I have seen the 4 runner...and it is awesome....one classy ride!

Hope to get all installed on Monday and be back on the road. Time to take the doors and windows out of the soft top!

Again....Zilla...thanks for the offer!

FYI-That dual set of engagement marks on the splines of the driver side axle says it came out of a track-lok differential.

Thanks Viper.... Very interesting! I can't say that I knew that was there. Good news on a Friday morning :)!
