Post Going Door Less
I have always wanted to take the doors off while on the trails during the summer. I have seen the doors the vendors over on CB offers (http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showth ... p?t=111638 ($230.00 plus shipping)) and they look nice. I was thinking I could make something similar for less money. I was thinking maybe there would be some interest on here and we could do a group build day and knock out a bunch for cheaper. If someone had a bender we could use I think we could do it. Let me know what you think, would it be worth while or would it not end up being cost effective. It could be like the bumper build day a few months ago. Let me know your opinion.

Post Re: Going Door Less
I have seen the thread and pics and think it is a cool product. The design in similar to the James Duff doors but less dollar bills. I have seen pics of guys adding sheet metal to close them in. A group build would be a great way to save even more dollar bills. The latch on the CB.com looks fairly simple.

I will wait to drive my Bronco without doors and see if I would use them but a great idea and excited to see if there is interest in a Group build.

If there is a group build, I'd be in for that for sure. I've been pondering the tube doors on the thread yo posted for a while.

Ok - back to the M*&%^R F*&^%in doors..... sigh....

If we were to do this, the first thing I am getting is 2 sets of lift off hinges. One for the hard doors and another for the tube doors. Yes, I like the idea too.

Some one has to come up with a design and a jig to make them up, then by all means - let have a club build day. My shop is probably the perfect place to host such an event. All we need is the bender and a way to cope the tubing - everyone needs to bring their welders, grinders etc. Set up properly - I would think we could knock our quite a few in one good long day. Who knows, we might even be able to produce a few extra sets and sell them to help cover some of the clubs expenses.

Here is an idea - a build weekend. Saturday doors and Sunday - front bumpers. Folks can leave their equipment here over night if playing on both days and by the end of the weekend - viola - tube doors and winch bumpers....

And who knows, even some beers and food.

Wonder if we can get vendor sponsors for the tubing, hinges and welding materials....

Get one set of lift off hinges and make the pin or pin hole side yourself. The stainless lift off hinges from Scott Drake (WH & I think BH both sell them) have the pin on the door & the other versions have the pin on the body. I'd recommend going with the stainless ones for that factor alone. I'd have to measure the pin, but I have those hinges and have been fairly happy with them. They are just a bitch to set up the first time.

If I was to do it all over again I would take a set of Ratty doors ...Cut them Roadster style and finish them real nice.. Then made a mold with a seam / parting line at the inside lip and make / layup the doors with Fiberglass... NOW all that being said..What if yous guys get a set of donor doors cut them and make a master for the Mold and let JGZ make a mold and a bunch of doors for all who want them .... The molds could be owned by the club...etc.

Just a thought

Roadster is the way to go in the summer!! Everybody likes em topless

I'll be modding my doors to have removable window frames one of these day. I like having a little steel between me and the elements in the event it decides to rain or what not.

I haven't heard of modding metal doors until GMAN suggested it. I came across a link today where a guy did it and included a couple pics half way down the page on the RED/Black 2-Tone Bronco . . .

Thats a cool idea to cut down some doors, I think I would still rather have tube doors. My truck is mostly a trail truck, and the only reason I would want to have tube doors is to give passengers a sense of security. I think either door less option would be cool though. We would still need someone with a bender and some time to make this happen.

Zen, I hear ya on keeping something in the door opening for safety. I drove mine around with no doors for awhile. The breeze would have been nice if it hadn't been the middle of winter, but I didn't like the idea of rolling or an on-road wreck without something between me and the rest of the world. If nothing else, tube doors will keep your limbs in the vehicle in the event you go over and probably provide most of the protection the stock doors do while offering a lot more ventilation.
