A friend of mine is dealing with the aftermath of a divorce and I suggested shooting at some things with really big guns. She thinks that is a great idea. I don't own any firearms. If we buy the ammo, is anyone willing to take us out and let us destroy some tin cans with significant firepower? |

Hit up Dick's for your ammo. They are having a sale right now. Remington UMC, buy one box, get the next for 50% off. Headed back over there tomorrow to buy some more. |

I sold all of my firearms years ago but plan on buying some new gear soon. Otherwise I would be glad to go shooting. It is a great way to blow off some steam for sure! My dad has a 50.cal Black powder Hawken we built ourselves when I was a kid. THAT is one fun rifle to shoot! Ill ask him about it the next time I talk to him. He is out of town right now. |

Mid august would be fine. Let me know what caliber you're thinking and I can look around for deals or give you cash in advance. How much are you thinking it would run for a decent chunk of shooting time? |

There's also a couple ranges in town you could check out that will rent handguns, rifles and shotguns for you to shoot. I've never been there myself but I've heard the silver bullet is a good place to go. http://www.silverbulletshootingrange.com |

Shotguns are perfect. Get her on a clay pigeon stand and she can shoot till her shoulder gets sore for fairly cheap. But best to have someone go with her that can teach her how to shoot properly. As Dukie said, there are ranges to rent these guns. 12ga for big bang, sore shoulder quickly. 20ga for little bang, lots more shooting. |

Justin, I have a 12ga and a 7mm mag (both hunting guns but but both will blow the piss out of a water Mellon) and a 22 lever action just for plinking. buy a box of clays, some discounted fruit and a couple boxes of cheap shells and for less than $100 she can have a ball. Trust me, with the 7mag she will not want more than 1/2 box of shooting, but it is fun to reach out several hundred yards and blow up water balloons. You will be tired of shooting before you go through $10 worth of 22 shells. Sounds like we need another wheeling trip with a shooting/lunch stop. |

To add to what Jesus_man said.. Take a look here. I just took my youngest son there friday and we had a blast.. pardon the pun. http://www.coloradoclays.com/ They rent shotguns though you may want to call and see if they have a semi auto or 20 gauge for a novice or female shooter. I seem to remember them having over under shotguns in the rental rack which can be a bit heavier on recoil than a automatic. The course is set up for 100 rounds to be fired over 15 different stations and a golf cart can be rented if desired. A member of your party controls when they launcher throws the targets. Similar to golf etc, if your slower or want to take a break, let others pass you. It's pretty stressfree and not intimidating for new or younger shooters. Cost= 24.00 buck for 100 shells at Walmart 38.00 for a round per person of shooting No idea on gun or cart sorry. You will need eye and ear protection as well. You will need a way to carry 100 rounds and some water with you. I have 2 hunting vests that we used and eyes and ear protection your welcome to borrow if you like. They also have trap and skeet ranges and instructors onsite if you needed. Brett |

I'm not experienced enough to teach a novice, but if/when you go, PM me and I'll bring a rifle or 2 and a pistol. BTW- last time I was at your place I just came from "Trigger Time" 1-25 and Hwy 119. They have a great staff and range. You could get a lesson for $25 plus ammo. |

I got a .300 Weatherby that'll knock the dog crap out of ya. It's only like $2/per shot for that SOB and if you can put a complete box of ammo through that gun, I'll buy you a . |

I really wish there was a quality and inexpensive shooting range down here near Colorado Springs. Other than on the bases that is. Dragon Man's scares me some times. Shooting up on Mt Hermans scares me too. Maybe I just don't know the good places. |

ACK, Sorry to hijack the thread so blatantly. Back on subject, I have a nice double action 357 revolver that's not too bad to shoot, and I have a 357/20Ga Over and under rifle that I sometimes shoot with it. Last time I bought 357 ammo it wasn't too expensive. I also have a 50 cal black powder rifle that's a blast to shoot. Nothing like sending up smoke signals as you shoot things. I have a 210 shotgun, several 20ga, and several 12 ga incluing a semi auto 12ga magnum plus throwers. For scoped rifles I have 7mm, 300 weatherby, 30/30 lever, 30-06. bolt, and probably a few others I can't recall. Several 22cal rifles and a derringer pistol. If you ever want to come down to the Springs, we could go out to Dragon Man's. His place is about $10 per person to shoot. Dragon Man's is about 10 miles East of Peterson AFT on the road towards Shriever AFB http://www.dragonmans.com |
