What's your MPGs?
I'm always curious to see how I am doing, comparatively, to other vehicles on the road when it comes to MPGs. Kind of anal about it. I've tracked every fill up with the Tacoma, the Super Duty, and the Bronco since I've owned them. I think it is a good way to check for problems before they present themselves to be critical too.
I use two methods to track my mileage in the Bronco. First, the obvious, is the odometer. While my speedo ticks like a heart monitor strapped to a Labrador on a treadmill, the odo seems to roll pretty smooth. The second is my true speedometer, the Garmin Vista Etrex GPS. I use the trip page of the GPS to display my trip odometer, speedometer and the current time (as I don't have a stereo installed and don't wear a watch). My truck odo always shows about 2.1 miles less than the GPS odo per every 100-140 miles.
So, time for the numbers.
My last fill up (this morning): 141 miles/14.42 MPG Average since January 15, 2011: 3,226.4 miles/10.60 MPG (These numbers are a bit off for various reasons. 1) I didn't start using GPS odo until about 6 months ago. 2) In the beginning of my tracking, I wasn't using the principal of same station, same pump, same fill level. 3) I switched over to a 4 barrel Edelbrock from a Motorcraft 2 barrel about a year ago.) Best mileage to date, September 25, 2012: 152 miles/15.34 MPG (There were a few higher fills recorded, but based on the MPGs they obvious errors in the input of data. There is NO way I was pulling a 20 MPG day)
So, what kind of numbers are you guys seeing?
By the way, my set up is: stockish 302, Edelbrock 1406 600 CFM 4 barrel carb, 3 speed transmission, 4:11 gears, 33" tires. Driving habits vary from putting around like a grandfather to trying my best to break the motor or something behind it.

Re: What's your MPGs?
That sounds pretty good. I have the same engine set-up sans 4 barrel carb. Do you think the carb is what makes the big difference? I would love to get 15 mpg's!

Re: What's your MPGs?
I haven't been able to track mileage on my rig very accurately, but I'd guesstimate somewhere in the low double digits. I'm running a poorly tuned/needs to be rebuilt Edelbrock 1406 600 cfm with 35's, an NP435, 4.11s and a somewhat tired 302.

Re: What's your MPGs?
I pulled just over 16 mpg when I first converted to EFI. Was really happy, so happy I never bothered to keep checking it just so I can convince myself it is still getting 16 :-)

Re: What's your MPGs?
How does crappy sound? When I've actually checked it, which is usually when I'm running up into the mtns I get around 10+, I'm under carbed & under geared (2bbl, 4.11s & 35s), plus I'm loaded with gear either in the Bronco or I'm dragging my trailer around. I've never really checked the mileage around town with an empty rig. I don't believe that 2bbls are better at fuel economy, it's more in how it's built (correct engine & drivetrain) and how it's driven. I bet if I was running a properly tuned 351 w/ EFI and was geared correctly I'd likely get close to 15 mpg.

Re: What's your MPGs?
I got 14.5-15 the last three times I drove to Denver running 75-80 for 1/3 of the trip and 60-65 the rest with a decent running but worn 302 w/Holley 600 or 650 cfm (cant remember which size) 4bbl,N.P. 435, 4.10's, 10 ply 35's and 3/4 ton running gear. As for commuting to work I drive 30 miles round trip per day 2/3's highway running 75 I average 10-12 depending on how hard I drive it

Re: What's your MPGs?
My old 302, with an RV type cam, holley 4v, 3.5-1 gears, 32s and a c4, would average around 14mpg, but i could squeeze 16 out of it if i babied it.
Now with my 351c, I can squeeze 14 out of it, but the way i usually drive it, its more like gallons to the mile!

Re: What's your MPGs?
351w EFI. 4.56 gears on 35's. 9.6 MPG my entire Red Cone trip, there and back again. 65 MPH on the highway. I drive it pretty hard...no standard for how much I should be getting so I won't worry about it.

Re: What's your MPGs?
I'm jealous of these numbers. My 79 gets 7.5-8 no matter how I drive it. But it puts a smile on my face when I mash that skinny pedal.

Re: What's your MPGs?
Took a pretty good drive early this morning up in the Pike. The drive up the pass plus the low speeds/washboards took it's toll on my tank. Wound up pulling 10.2 again during the fill up coming back down.

Re: What's your MPGs?
I will do a fill up prior to a long road trip, example Canon to Buena Vista, 16.9 @ about 60 to 65 MPH.
Canon to Pueblo 16.8 at 70 mph.
302 bored 60 over, flat top pistons, RV cam, balanced, headers, pertronics ignition, factory 2bl manafold with Howell injection, NP435, 4:11 gears 35X12.50 KM2. Lots of iron for bumpers etc.
I like it.
