Greetings all, I finally have some time to get my 76 running right. Unfortunately the # 3 cylinder on my 302 is losing compression from 110 down to 90. Anyhow, I am not the best gear head so my mechanic is giving me a couple of options: 1) rebuild the 302 which could take almost 2 months with a 1 yr 12000 mile warranty, with a new edlebrock/holley for about $5K 2) buy a new Jasper Motors 302 with a new carb for about 5 K but would be finished in about a week or so. She runs fairly decent right now but takes a little bit to get her started right. It it was simple I'd do what ever I could myself, but worried that would take awhile since I'm new to some of this. I'd like to get the engine work done as well as the body work so we can enjoy this summer. Open for thoughts, comments, and opinions. Am I wasting money here or does this sound like a fair price??? v/r Web |

I think you can come in substantially lower than 5k with a rebuild. Definitely worth talking with Vragor about his engine rebuild. The best money saving measures you can take with something like this is removing and installing the motor yourself. Or with the help of some friends (aka Bronco brothers). |

5k for a rebuild seems really high. You could buy a built crate motor for less. Pulling a motor is not hard at all, but a rebuild could be a little tricky. I assume it is a completely stock motor. It might be a good time to consider a fuel injected 302 swap too. |

I know of a couple of shops that have had issues with jasper rebuilds. They will warranty the engine but your time is lost. |

Thanks to all for the feedback on this. In the end I went with a rebuild of my engine by Jasper with the warranty. The bronco is running great. Hoping to get the body work completed this fall. Web |
