Rear storage options

Just removed my rear seat and looking for storage options & ideas.

I used this SmittyBilt Box for our Baja trip. Worked great. Jeff used one in his also, and I think it worked out well for him. They are light (made from aluminum), lockable and don't cost a fortune. And they leave room for other stuff. I mounted mine more toward the seats so I could have boxes accessible via the liftgate. Jeff put his close to the tailgate. Just personal preference.

yep - and they are super heavy and spring loaded so they don’t rattle.

I built a nice box for pretty cheap. 2 drawers. I dont have pics but will get them tomorrow. A few things i'd change but couldnt be happier.

You’ve seen mine, held up great but will eventually replace it with an aluminum version that isn’t as tall.

I really like my smittybuilt box and it worked great for the Baja trip.

Now I am just trying to decide if I leave it in or put the seat back in so the kids can ride with me and bang their heads on the roll cage.

Here is mine. It has been a great addition. Allows me to have all my camping gear loaded and if I need a tool I don't have to unload the whole truck. I made it 36" long 11" tall and 39" wide. Cost was cheap to build. 24" drawer slides.

Yes it is a rail kit on top to strap down coolers and stuff.

Thanks Chris. It has worked out great. I thought about making it a big single drawer like you did but was afraid I'd cram too much in there weight wise and the slides wouldnt hold.

I did one drawer because frankly I don’t have the skills or equipment to make precise cuts and knew one drawer was easier if things weren’t quite square. I bought heavy duty 500lb locking slides to compensate for the weight. Sure enough my setup is a little “off” but I got it to work. Lol.

My do over will be to cut it down to the height of the wheel wells like yours. Although I do like the fact I can store oil and other fluids upright. Maybe one day I will build an aluminum version but we will see. For now it stores allot of stuff.

I designed it for 2 slides on each side. I only added one right now.

Oh thing I would change is possibly shorten it in length. I'd like my small cooler to be able to sit on the floor in front of the box.

I’ve decided now that the Baja trip is done, I’m going to put my rear seat back in and am selling my box if anyone is interested. $225.
