302 Firing Order vs Explorer Firing order

Postby Strike2 » Tue Jan 25, 2022 1:04 pm

For those of you running the Ford Explorer EFI/Garry's harness with a OEM 302 old block I understand that the firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Do you know if Garry reflashes the ECU from the new Explorer firing order of 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 back to the old firing order?? I'm running a 96 Explorer EFI with the OEM 75 302 Block.

My engine builder is ready to fire up the new motor and is asking me this question and I don't know much about motors but wouldn't it have ran rough for the 3K miles I put on it. He's concern is the cam ?

I'm not sure if Garry is still in CO and can call him later just though Id try here first as I know his hard to get ahold of him.

Thanks,
Steve

I’m running the original block but replaced the cam with the new firing order. Garry can change the order in the computer if needed.

In talking with Tim he helped me recall that I used the EFI firing order and then placed the spark plug wires in the OEM firing order

Big Thanks Tim ! I just got off the phone from the engine builder and he’ll have the motor completed by the end of the week
