Body Lift requirements

Postby Brianut » Thu Mar 10, 2011 8:27 am

Very seriously considering a 1" body lift.
What are the things that are needed to make it happen?
longer fuel filler hoses, fan shroud move, etc things like that.

does anything need to be done to the steering column?

I guess basically what is all involved?

The last time I did a 1 inch bl I did not have to buy and new filler tubes or anything. But that won't always be the case. Just go slow and watch anything connected to the body like ground straps and clutch linkage which you will have to adjust or extend

Rear fuel filler hose will probably be ok. Tank could be an issue if you're using a large aftermarket one that straps against the floor. Front tank is all body mounted.

Fan shroud is minor issue. Unbolt it before the lift. You should be able to adjust/trim it after.

Steering column could be a minor issue too. Might have to slot the 3 mounting holes in the triangular firewall brace to relieve binding.

You should have enough clutch and parking brake adjustment.

I removed the 2" Body Lift on mine and hope to be able to run no body lift. That may not be possible with my uncut rear fenders and air cleaner on a 351 clearance issue so a 1" BL may be in my future.

BTW - Rtreads told me Saturday they are easier to work on with a Body Lift.

I have the 1" from WH and installed it last year. If you have extended lines for a suspension lift already, you won't need new ones. If you don't, you might need them, might not. I didn't need to swap out any fillers. As mentioned, the fan shroud is an issue. I cracked my in half when I was jacking up one side of the Bronco to install the lift. I thought I would need the extended clutch rod, but the lift actually tightened up some slack there...so I didn't need one.

Use duck tape over the holes in the frame under the mounts or you might find yourself fishing for nuts/bolts.

One other concern...if you have power steering, when you lft up the body, the front clip has a lip on it and it will jam itself on the front portion of the gear box. I've been told that's bad and I still need to cut some metal out to make it right.
