Modern dash?

Postby HIX » Tue Mar 08, 2011 8:11 pm

Has anyone seen or done a modern dash in an EB? I am almost hating myself for asking because I love the sparse look of the dash but I want to use the gauge cluster from my donor and it occurred to me when I was trying to figure out how to four it that I could more easily take out and save the old dash and chop up the donor to make it fit, front center console, hvac junk and all. Imagine, vents that actually blow air! I would have to rhinoline it to cover up my shame but I think it could be done in such a way that it doesn't look totally retarded. Plus I guess it would save me some wiring integration because I could just use the donor harness with a few slight changes due to lighting differences.

I guess ill cut up the donor dash facade and put it in place to see how it looks when I pull the bronco dash for wiring and repaint. It was going to the dumpster anyways. Who knows maybe it will look ok after cutting. The top of the dash would have to be 4 inches deep due to the cluster width and wiring connection locations.

A one piece speedo, tach, oil, fuel, volt and volt cluster would have to go to the right of the column hole in the stock dash

The EB at the RV & Boat show this past weekend had a pretty sick modern dash. I can post up some cell phone pics if you'd like. But this is a completely custom Bronco but they had some sick ideas.

Seriously dude - you have to ask if we want to see pics of an early bronco? What next, you going to wonder of we like to drink beer? does anyone here fish or hunt?

Now, since you mentioned it, you HAVE to post those pictures.

I would have went to the RV Show if I knew there were Broncos there - I thought it was just RV's.

I guess I have a slightly different idea of what of what modern is...the type of cluster I want to find a way to put in is below. Being able to find a way to get the cluster in would make my overall swap much easier

I think that cluster would look great. Fiberglass may be the easiest, but thats coming from a guy that has never done anything with fiberglass. Good luck.

I think that would look great - very modern. Be cool to see it light up. Maybe a cluster from a Mustang. Cool idea.

The raffle bronco will be at 4wheel parts in the 'Springs this weekend (11th, 12th and 13th).
Per this post:
http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showpost ... tcount=246

I want to go, just not sure when I can make it. Might even cruise my own EB...

On topic - My concern with a modern dash is it's depth. Our EB's didn't have much depth, but it seems modern day vehicles use up a foot or more. A lot of that is fluff tho, so I am sure it could be done.

1973 Bronco, 351 SEFI, Locked, discs, 35's ZF-5spd and Atlas 4spd. 235:1 Crawl Ratio. It may be ugly, but it's slow.
