smell of gas.

Postby gslack » Tue Mar 15, 2011 8:43 pm

recently, i dropped, and repaired my aux tank. i got new clamps for all the hoses, the are no leaks, and i sealed it up tight, and ever since i repaired it im getting the smell of gas in my cabin, and when i took the tank down i noticed there was massive rust under the drivers side (welding job anyone?) and it has been repaired, but not permanently, by another owner.

soo...could something have gone wrong...or...im kind of baffled. sometime next week ill be dropping both the tanks and replacing sending units, gaskets and wiring etc.

confusion :(.

help?

Check the collection canister right behind the driver seat in the cab. You could have pulled a line loose to that, there should be a rubber grommet/gasket that goes through the body that has 3 or 4 lines running to it. Look at that, it's just a vapor collector like the charcoal canister under the pass floor board and if when you pulled the tank it got the lines yanked a little hard.....

Also check your tank switch. A lot of times those things get knocked and you can pick up some fumes that way too.

X2 on the tank valve. It has an o-ring seal that is prone to minor leaks right under your legs.
