Header Questions?...

Postby cmcdowell » Mon Mar 21, 2011 10:12 am

Hey Everyone,

This will be my first upgrade on my 74' and I'm wondering what kind of headers everyone else is running. I've got a 302 and the stock exhaust system. I plan to get some headers then go to a 2-into-1 flowmaster setup. What will fit? and Who makes the best?

Thanks for the help!

I have WH Headers (not coated) into dual FlowMasters - I love my exhaust.

Until you drive it down the highway a while and the drone will drive you nuts. Ask anyone that has had chambered mufflers. My 79 drones like crazy and is too freakin loud. And so does my cobra with MAC mufflers. But they do sound great.

As for headers before you put them in heat wrap them. Even if they are coated. A good heat wrap will go a long ways on keeping under hood temps down.

If you want to spend the lettuce, like 777 said the BC setup is a good way to go.

On another note, I have a set of chrome shorty headers I am looking to sell

I noticed there is a set of long tube headers for the 289-302 from JBG
But I run a set of Sandersons shorties on my 460 through a pair of flowtech Warlocks, they have a nice mellow rumble and can be uncapped for straight through. I may go with something like this for the Bronco as well.
only because I like to do this.

On the cheap, mustang shorties work well and can be found on the cheap. Then have your local shop setup your system with the mufflers you want.

BC's kit is awesome and will be a complete DIY kit, where as nearly anything else will involve an exhaust shop.
