3G Alternator upgrade for $30

Postby BFD305 » Fri Jan 07, 2011 7:25 pm

Just wanted to let anyone that's interested in the 3G alternator swap know some pricing.
Anderson U-Pull-It in Greeley charges $25 plus a $5 core.

Me and Jonah went out, spent a little time, opened up the harness, and pulled the big wire from the Alternator to the fusebox, the mega fuse, plus the other 2 connectors, with as much wire as we could get back to easily (18" or so). All it cost was $30.

I took the alternator right over to O'Reily's had it tested. Ours did fail, but Andersons has a 30 day warrantee on their parts so just went and pulled another (just the alternator this time) 10 mins max and it tested fine.

They have a bunch of Taurus cars to choose from. I just looked for one that had been replaced and took it.

They have a lot of 5.0 EFI parts out there too.

Still havn't installed the alternator yet. I will try to snap some pics and relay any info I can.

I did the same thing a month ago at the U-pull-and-pay in colorado springs. Got a 130 amp 3G out of a taurus.

I have a v-belt and had to go borrow a friend's impact wrench to get the nut off so I could switch pully's. My 3G still causes a belt squeal for 1 second after starting the motor. That's how I know it's working :)
