Two Issues; Starter spinning and not always starting and ra

Postby laffycaffi » Sat Aug 13, 2016 12:28 pm

I have two new issues with my '72:

1. Starter: Upon ignition, sometimes (not every time) the starter spins and wont start. I have to wait for the spinning to stop and then I try again and usually it works. Ideas?

2. I get a very random grinding sound. Imaging the sound you get when trying to shift into gear without stepping on the clutch. Sounds like that. And it happens at any speed. In gear or not in gear. While coasting or accellerating braking or not braking. In other words, it's about as random as random gets. Ideas on that?

3. I know I said two issue. Truth is that I probably have about 102. These are my top 3. I'm going to replace all the bushings in the front end of my bronco. I'm a very amateur mechanic if you haven't guessed yet. But I'm hoping my death wobble will go away if I do that. Found some videos on youtube to follow. But let me know if you have tips or warnings. Also, if you're in Colorado Springs and want to stop by to tell me if I'm doing things wrong, that's cool too. :)

We were wheeling and my remanufactured starter was goofed up. The starter would start my rig but the plunger wouldn't retract completely. After I had it started, it would slide into the flywheel and make random clunking sounds. Could be possible the plunger on yours isn't "plunging" correctly.
Definition of cool.

Definitely sounds like you got Shawn's old starter.
