Charging Issue

Postby ScottBarnes » Thu Jun 29, 2017 10:42 am

I just replaced almost everything under the hood on my '66 U13 w/170. It's running great, but it's not charging the battery. Alt gauge doesn't move when running. New alternator, new voltage regulator, new starter, new solenoid, new battery and cables. I think I might have connected one of the wires incorrectly, and don't really know where to start. Any advice? I can drive it for a couple of days on the battery, but would love to have it charging itself! lol

Original wiring? If so I'd start checking grounds and continuity testing the wires in the charging system.

Solar panel on top??

Aside from that poor advice, I'm useless but here's to hoping you find the easy fix!
1973 Bronco, 351 SEFI, Locked, discs, 35's ZF-5spd and Atlas 4spd. 235:1 Crawl Ratio. It may be ugly, but it's slow.

Yep -- original wiring. I might have to hire a guy to help with testing -- electrical work is my achilles. I might know a guy...

Haha, does his name rhyme with "Hill?" If he comes to our neck of the woods let me know. If he's tied up I can lend a hand.

haha.. yeah. I'm going to pick up a meter this weekend when I'm down in Denver and I think he can walk me thru what I need to do. This electrical stuff drives me nuts.
