Engine Woes

Postby Bronco1294 » Mon Apr 16, 2018 8:25 pm

Engine Woes! My stock 302/2bbl is cramping out. Main bearings are down to the copper. Here’s the problem- I’m broke.

I don’t need/can’t afford a coyote. It’s a 75, driver- camping at high altitude, some wheeling, occasionally pulling my ATV or pop up. Looking at budget-friendly options and I need some feedback. Suggestions appreciated- or cheap 351’s...:)

In Elizabeth, CO in case anyone knows of any deals locally. I can’t drop 3-5k on this. Looking for creative ideas. Also- I’m not doing the work. Replacing a motor is out of my skill set and existing tool/garage capacity. TIA for any ideas or leads!

I would surf Craigslist for a running 302 and do a direct swap. Might be the easiest and quickest fix.

Avoid the 351 if you're on a budget. Little details like exhaust mods and the like will nickel and dime you.
Cummins R2.8 diesel, ZF5, AtlasII, HP44/BB9, ARBs, coiled / linked suspension, 37" KO2s, full cage, bumpers, etc.

How about a relatively low mile (144K) 99 explorer 5.0 that runs great? No efi or serpentine drive. $200 if you can wait a month. You can see it run up until that time.

Hey Phil - all his stuff (intake, timing cover, water pump, PS and ALT brackets etc)should bolt up, correct? What about the balancer and flywheel? I’m thinking this is a slam dunk option, right? His Bell housing bolts up, right?

He would need to add his old timing cover, accessories and intake. He will need to get a 50 oz-in balancer. The 5.0 flexplate will work with a C4 as long as he has the 11 7/16" bolt pattern on the converter. The explorer exhaust manifolds are reported to work well in a Bronco. Everything will bolt on.

Wow- thanks for all the input! This seems like a good option- where are you located?
