Help me identify my engine

Postby Rox Crusher » Sun Feb 27, 2011 2:53 pm

While researching the purchase of a 5.0 EFI engine from a 98 explorer I was told that starting in 97 the spark plugs were mounted at an angle in "P" heads which causes some header fitment issues.

As I just replaced plugs yesterday I realized that my current engine has angled plugs.

Got me wondering what the heck I have for an engine.

Casting # is D8VE-6015-A3A with a much larger Z to the right of the main casting number.

The guy I bought my EB from said that he had replaced the engine with a Ford factory crate engine sometime in 96 or 97 and it only had 5k on it since then.

So if I decode it correctly I believe my engine block to be from a 78 Lincoln.

Can somebody offer any more info / advice ?

Jeff,

All SBF plugs are angled. The GT40P plugs are angled differently which can cause problems with the exhaust manifold/headers.
