HD Brake Master Cylinder

Postby mickphatmac » Sun Aug 04, 2019 5:59 pm

I’m going to be installing a power brake booster in the ‘73. I intend on keeping all four corners drum brakes.(for now) Is there a master cylinder out there that will fit and work better than the stock one? I think I remember someone saying they use one off of an F250? I think it has 2 hold down clips instead of just one?
What year and specifics would really help... or if the regular one works just fine, that would be helpful to know as well !

This is what I think it looks like ?

Lots of folks go with the 78 f250 camper special when going to disc fronts. That said, for drums, I think the standard master does really well. I even think it's doing great for disc/drum using the Ford swap with Thunderbird calipers.

I think that one is a 'Corvette' master. I think I have a never been used F250 Camper Special M/C laying around somewhere.

Thanks Toolman... any Idea how much you want for it and do you know if it's for a Drum/Drum set up?

I don't see why you couldn't use it. Maybe someone can chime in that knows for sure. I bought it because it has the larger bore/piston than the F150/bronco counterpart when I was still rocking manual brakes. Only problem was, the outlets are on the passenger side so I couldn't use it. How does $20 sound?

Drum brake master cylinders keep more pressure in the brake lines after you release the pedal.

You can add a residual pressure valve if you are using a m/c for a disk brake set up. Probably add one to the front of the F250 m/c, I'm assuming it is from a front disk/rear drum truck.
