new tumbler

Postby Gregg » Wed Mar 02, 2011 11:43 am

When I turn the key to the off position it is a bi-atch to turn back on again (5 minutes of tinkering with the key). So when the truck is running, to turn it off I turn it almost all the way up until the engine stops and the alt gauge is off (not to drain the battery). However, with this method, I have to keep the key in ignition. I figure I just need to replace the tumbler.

Any suggestions where to get a new tumbler and what size / model.

If I don't get the kit, could I have the door locks re-keyed?

Thanks for your suggestions.

I just ordered a lock set from Wild Horses that is the Ignition and 2 Doors for $35.00. For some reason - Locksmiths think they can bill like a lawyer. The kit will definitley save you some money. I got a couple extra spare square keys for $2.00.

Just ordered the kit from the Hut. She said 32 plus 4 dollars shipping. Not bad. The local locksmith said 25 bucks labor to match a blank ingition key and to sue himself for an overcharge.

I put in the new tumbler and replaced the door locks too. Thanks Jeff for the lock change out advice (from the snow wheeling trip). Nice to have an easy fix.

BTW-Wild horses has a cool vid on the ignition tumbler swap.
