Blowing coils
I was heading thru Montrose yesterday and saw a black and yellow EB sitting on the side of the road and fliped around to help. The owner Josh said he smoked 2 coils in just a few miles of driving. Setup is a 72, 302, C4, electronic ignition out of a 76 ford. New in the last few weeks is the voltage reg, ignition control box, alternator, 8-9 volt resistor in line with dizzy. Before new alternator and resistor the coil got real hot so napa said put in the resistor and should fix it. All the wires for the setup look good or are new. Told this guy about the forum but does not have internet most of the time. Any ideas I can give him on this problem. When we bypassed the resistor and disconected the alternator it seemed to work OK other then the coil getting real hot fast.

Re: Blowing coils
Is that voltage resister inline between coil and distributor? Thats how it reads from your post. And that is not how it should be. It should be before the coil. I hope it is in front of the coil anyway. LOL
