In the engines I care about I run full synthetic mobil 1 only. A mobil 1 or k&n oil filter with that too. If I don't really care about the engine(i.e. My broncos current engine) I will run the cheapest oil I can get and a stp oil filter. I change it at 3000 miles regardless. I will never run a fram filter in anything I work on or own! Complete junk.

I run regular valvoline 10w40 with a purolator pureone filter in my 79. 11qts isn't cheap when you go synthetic.
everything else is mobil 1 with the same filter.

Syntheitic where it makes sense. I generally run Schaeffer's. It's good stuff. Have it in my diesel and my bronco.

Bosch or Mobil 1 filters.

Depends on which vehicle. 5w30 Penzoil Platinum synthetic in the Mazda, as it resist the fuel from the direct injection better than most. The Bronco generally gets Quaker State, Castrol or Valvoline 10w30 due to a relatively recent rebuild (at least per PO, haven't done a compression test on it yet.) If you're interested in this stuff, www.bobistheoilguy.com is fascinating. Lots of very smart people over there.

just stay away from penzoil and quaker state, they're sludge building parafin based oils and i've never seen an engine running them be any kind of clean inside when you tear em' down

Yeah fords have an allergic reaction to Penzoil.

I try my best to run engine oils with zinc in them still, the manufacturers decided to remove zinc from the majority of their oils since modern engines do not need the zinc with cam followers. I put Rotella 10W30 in the 69 when I brought it home last summer. I run motorcraft leftover/excess (thats letting the extra in the container drain from customers oil changes into another container lmao ) 15W40 in my 78 F150
I ran mobil 1 synthetic in my 06 F150
I would suggest anyone running a pushrod engine to make sure your using an oil with zinc. Ive seen engine builders lose complete engines with modern oils in their fresh engines because of this. Guys that have never had a problem before for years ended up with catastrophic failures because of this. You are supposed to be ok once the engine is broke in, but who is willing to take that chance? I would love to share the information I have, but it is stored on my home PC which is in a storage unit in SE aurora. banghead

Funny you say that. The guy who rebuilt my engine for me 6 or 7 years ago told me that he would void the warranty on my engine if I used either of these oils. Same thing happened when my dad rebuilt the engine in his '56 Chevy Wagon that has a 265 power pack engine. Both builders said to use Valvoline and any use of Penzoil or QS and you can kiss the engine goodbye. I also have a guy who we did some work for who is an engine builder and he recommends only Valvoline and highly recommends against those two oils as well.

Thanks for the input guys - that really helped me out. Looks like I am going 10W 30 Mobile 1 Synthetic and a Mobile 1 or K&N Filter.

I can't find it now, but I once found a thorough review of all the major oil filter manufacturers. Amazingly, the Walmart generic filters are manufatured by a top quality company and scored right at the top of the pack. I generally buy Mobile 1 and a walmart filter for my cars and bikes.
