my shaft isn't hardened
I disassembled my rear diff to install a Powertrax Lock-Rite locker today. One of the supplemental instruction sheets, included, stated that the long "ring gear cross shaft", must be hardened. I dragged a file across it and the shaft scratched easily, indicating that the shaft wasn't hardened. The instructions say that an "non"hardened shaft will break/void warranty.
Where can I get a hardened ring gear cross shaft for a Ford 9"? I'd like someone in Denver that might stock them, that way I can get it quickly without breaking the bank on overnight freight.
The shaft I'm needing goes through the carrier, 2 "spider" gears, and the square block inside the original open diff.
