Post rear spring lift choice
I've almost convinced myself to buy a new set of rear springs from Wild Horses this weekend. I'm running a 15 year old James Duff 3.5" lift w/a 5 or 6 leaf pack. I drive the truck every day & use it on the highway to cart around my dogs, hunt, camp, wheel, etc, & need to maintain my driveability. My truck is pretty heavy, I'm always running the hard top w/roof rack, winch, & 2 big ammo cans bolted into the back w/chains, tools, recovery gear, and usually lots of camping gear or about 230 lbs of dogs. I'm planning long term upgrades to a 351W & 4R70W.

I'm worried that if I buy a 3.5" spring pack & it settles my truck may loose a little height. I don't want to loose any height from where I'm at now. I'd rather get a little taller, but that is not my goal.

Reading about the WH springs, it says you can remove or add leaves to adjust height. But what does that do to the spring rate, ride? If I bought a 4.5" spring pack & pulled leaves out to level the truck, would I end up with a really soft suspension? Or if I buy a 3.5" pack, and it settles, what would happen if I add leaves? Where would I find additional leaves?

I would say the wild horses springs are the way to go. I love how mine ride! They flex great as well as ride smooth on the road. As far as taking leafs out , the bottom leafs really only serve as spacers. I think anyway. There so short, I just don't see them affecting the spring rate for the longer ones.

Does anyone have 3.5" W/H springs? Could you measure the height from the frame to the top of the spring perch? Since I've got Ruffstuff spring perches (taller than stock) & the 79 Bronco axles (slightly larger diameter than stock), my axle to frame measurements won't match a stock EB.

My truck currently measures about 7-3/8" from spring perch to frame. I'd like an idea how others sit before ordering.
