1 qt low = 30/40 psi down?
Tonight on my way to the gym I noticed my oil pressure was low. Running ~ 60mph I was only pushing 10psi. I let the truck sit for about an hour while i worked out, came out and checked the oil. Found it to be about a quart low. (Massive oil leaks from the seals. Marks more territory than a pack of dogs who've drank a pot of coffee.) Threw a quart in the pan and fired it up and drove home. Oil PSI on the way home was between 50-60psi.
That sound about right? Or should I be looking at something else to pinpoint that low oil pressure issue?

One quart low shouldn't result in that kind of loss, do you have the right oil tube and dip stick combo?

Appears to be the appropriate dipsticks and tube. Ran 50+ PSI this morning after I added another quart. Now I'm sitting on the side of the interstate with my hazards on after it flooded out, two big backfires, and sputtered to a stop.

Re: 1 qt low = 30/40 psi down?
Did the needle and seat stick open causing it to flood? If its two to three quarts low the oil pressure would drop that much but not just one quart, do you put six quarts in with oil changes?

6 I think. Plus a quart in the filter. Needles and seats are good I am pretty sure. Checked voltage on the coil while cranking and was only pulling 4.3. Doesn't sound right, does it? Have Advanced dropping me off a new coil just to be sure.

Re: 1 qt low = 30/40 psi down?
After talking to Corey, I pulled the point and condenser and picked up new ones. Still haven't put them in. Gotta work. But looking at the old ones versus the new ones I would say they are a likely culprit.

Obviously the old points are on the right.

Is there a burn spot b/t the contacts?

Re: 1 qt low = 30/40 psi down?
Yeah they're pretty toasting. And not much left of the contacts. Swapped in the new points and condenser, set the gap to .018, and fire it up on the first crank.
Now I just need to carry a case of oil with me until next year when I drop in the 351W.

Re: 1 qt low = 30/40 psi down?
Oh I'm thinking 1st might have been a conservative estimate. Tonight I pulled in to the drive to turn around and left a fresh, thick trail of new oil on the concrete. Thinking my main seals have gone the way of the do-do. Was hoping to keep it on the road until I got the 351W built but I think I am going to have to park it except for special occasions.

Re: 1 qt low = 30/40 psi down?
I have forbid Andrew from parking his bronco in the driveway due to his massive oil leak. He goes through about a quart every 3-4 days. But does not wish to purchase new front seals (take a look at my signature line to see why he is upset about it).
So now he pulls straight into the sidewalk - and pukes oil all over it. Don't know why he cant pull parallel to the curb and drain on the pavement....
I look at it as a perpetual oil change, and I do not buy his oil....
I have a few pet peeves, but oil stains in the driveway may be the biggest one... any my son's trucks are by far the worst oil leakers I have ever seen. We are talking the exon valdez and BP Deep Water Horizion oil rig...
Sorry to hijack but your thread just reminded me of my personal situation.
