Intermediate Axle and Half Axle and CV Drive Axle
Ok, I am confused. First, this is a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 not a Bronco, sorry. But the dealer wants to charge me $130 for an Intermediate Axle Shaft and $315 for a Half Axle Shaft. Don't laugh, but are these two parts together what makes up the CV Drive Axle Assembly or is that something else altogether? I want to buy the parts that I need elsewhere to save the money but I don't know yet what I should be buying. HELP!

Re: Intermediate Axle and Half Axle and CV Drive Axle
I am not familiar with the dodges, but my guess is it could have something to do with the automatic hubs. Could be that there is a inner shaft (intermediate) that goes from the diff to a collar, then the half shaft that goes from that collar to the knuckle. The collar slides to engage the front axle.
i could be way off, but that may explain it.

I'm not that up on dodges either but, dodge uses a two piece axle (I believe the right side) and there is a coller that slides back and forth over the ends of each axle, locking them together (4WD) or unlocking them (2WD) I belive that the inner axle is the intermediate and the outer is the Half axle shaft.

REH is correct. They have a center axle disconnect. Crawl under it and on the passenger side tube you'll see the disconnect. The passenger side has 3 shafts total. an inner from diff to disconnect. disconnect to ujoint. the the outer shaft. If the axle doesnt engage or disengage I'd look at the actuator on the axle first. If you need axles you can pick them up from a junk yard easy.

Re: Intermediate Axle and Half Axle and CV Drive Axle
Guys this is an independent suspension truck, it has 3 shafts total, two cv axles, one per side, and one intermediate shaft on the passenger side that goes between the diff and the RF cv axle through an axle carrier tube, i think they still use a disconnect, but if they do its more like the 88 and up chevy stuff with a synchro. John if you need me to take a look at it one night shoot me a text
