Sealing dipstick port
I'm about to drop my oil pan to replace my rear main seal. The piece that's riveted into the oil pan to accept the dipstick leaks a decent amount between that part and the pan itself. What's the best way to re-seal it? Drill the rivets and use RTV or can it be welded without warping the pan?

Re: Sealing dipstick port
If you are going to drill out the rivets I'd make a gasket for it. I think it could be welded fairly easily.

Re: Sealing dipstick port
Couple of guys over on CB.com suggested brazing it. That might be the ticket, as the filler rod would wick between the two parts in a way that a weld wouldn't.

Re: Sealing dipstick port
I have this same problem. I was just considering welding the hole shut with a piece of sheet metal. Or just a new pan w/o said port...
