Dana 44 ring gear engraving

 Dana 44 ring gear engraving So, tonight I finally got around to opening a Dana 44 I picked up several months ago. The good news it is a 4.09 ratio with Trac-Loc.
While checking things out on the inside, I found an "A202" hand engraved into the outside of the ring gear. Anyone have any idea what that might mean? I'm thinking it was done by a PO. I'm just curious if it sounds like it would be pertinent to the set up or something.

1972 Sport, 302, 3 speed with old school Duff floor shifter, T shift Dana 20 with JB Fab twin stick, 4.11 gears with Trac-loc, Lincoln hydroboost, Chevy disc conversion, WH gas lift gate shock kit, 33" Duratrac tires on slots and about 2.5" of lift, Stroppe installed: bumper braces, dual shocks on all four corners, GM power steering, trans cooler mount, auto shift column, rollbar.

1972 Sport uncut, 302, C4 with 1974 column , T shift Dana 20, 3.50 gears w/ limited slip, 1966 U13 Roadster kick panel, and factory power steering.

Re: Dana 44 ring gear engraving Yep usually you will find the same phase engraved on the pinion to signify the pair. Also I use to see a +2 or -1 hand engraved on the end of the pinion. This was to show the approximate pinion depth during setup, unfortunately it seems gear manufacturers have stopped doing this.
