Help me with a new steering wheel
My steering wheel is too close to me. Even with the stock seat all the way back, the wheel feels like its in my chest. I would like to replace it with a wheel with less cone depth, but then I wonder if I will hit the blinker lever. The wheel is 14" diameter and 4" cone depth.
Any wheels people like with less depth?
Anyone replace the blinker lever with one that is tilted or closer to the dash board?
I am going to replace the seats too which should help some as both seats and wheel are part of the ergonomic package.
Erik

Re: Help me with a new steering wheel
If your lower steering shaft is collapsible, you might be able to sneak an inch or two where the column bolts to the dash.
I've been running a cheaper 17" Grant wheel for years. It was closer to the turn signal lever than stock and I had to bend the lever slightly towards the dash. I kept turning on my signals by accident. I could measure the depth if you want. It is available cheap, I'm switching to a 16" for a little extra leg room. I put the 17" wheel in before power steering.

Re: Help me with a new steering wheel
Another lesser known option is a steering column from a 68-73 or so F series truck. The column is a few inches shorter and puts the wheel mounting area closer to the dash. When I get home tonight I will measure to confirm that, but if I recall correctly it can buy you 1-3".

Re: Help me with a new steering wheel
Zac is right. I've got a column from a '71 in mine and it's about 2" shorter than stock.

Re: Help me with a new steering wheel
I'll check out the stock wheel and some after market steering wheels that are flatter.
Looking at the steering column's, is it just possible to cut down the Bronco column vs. swapping one out from another truck?
(If I pimp out the Bronco, including lowering it and adding tiny chandelier in the back, a chain wheel might be in its future...)

Re: Help me with a new steering wheel
Cutting the column would rate a high degree of difficulty. You would also need to shorten the shaft. Easier to slide the entire column down an inch or two.
