Cherokee wiper upgrade

Postby Brianut » Sat Feb 05, 2011 10:22 am

Just wondering how many of you have been out there in all this lovely weather with stock wipers?
not me.

I did the conversion and it is unreal how well they work.

And for some reason I thought there were a few years that worked but I found that it is the 1986 rear arm for sure.
I went with 14" blades and they work awesome.

Napa Auto is the only place that I found to actually have them and they were almost $30 a peice but well worth it in my opinion over stock

just thought I would pass on a few tidbits that I discovered along the way.

I bought mine off of ebay a couple years back................not sure if they are cherokee or something else................but

I went from almost no wiper contact on the glass to now they push down so hard the wiper blade can't oscillate.

Works better than nothing.

Would like to look at your set up next breakfast or whatever.

I did the wiper upgrade 4 months ago, along with upgrading to the combo radiator overflow/wiper reservoir upgrade. Being able to get allot of fluid on the windshield and good wipers to clean them it's amazing.

I bought my wipers from autozone and advance auto. They only carry 1 of these at a time because it is a rear windshield wiper.

weird thing is when I called those places they said that they could not get a rear, they were no longer available???

Oh well napa had them in town and available to ma at my local store by the end of the day.

Rox: for sure you can check them out I am hoping to be at the next Bfast and swing by for some of the bumper build.

i just finally did mine and my dads yesterday, and im loving it, you don't have to use a rear blade, just a 14" blade for a pin style mounting, advanced auto parts, checker, napa, and all the auto parts stores usually have mutiple blades in stock

and i believe the arm can be off of a box cherokee all the way up to like 96 atleast, just check that the spline drive is the same size hole and mounting style

not sure exactly what years but I looked at a bunch of early nineties and they were all too big of splines.
researched and found 86 as a for sure year. that is what I went with and it works.

Did mine years ago w/ the rear wiper arms off of the Cherokee. Great thing is that the rear arms also have the squirter nozzle attached. I ran the lines into the cab and then out to the wiper arms. Alot better than the factory spray pattern.

How much are you guys into the Cherokee upgrade total?

Wild Horses has an upgrade hit for $55.00 so with the entrance fee to JY, time, fuel, buying the parts, blades, etc. this may be an easier way for about the same cost. I purchased the kit for convenience and the flip forward feature but mostly becasue I am fairly sure I broke my original wipers getting them off my truck lol

I believe the WH ones you are looking at are still stock replacements. Still not going to have good pressure to the blades.

Under $20 for the cherokee upgrade at the JY.

20 bucks for 2 arms, and whatever the blades cost, 6-15 bucks a blade, and 1 dollar to get into the junkyard

I have a set of arms shortened and ready to install (no blades). Does $25 sound fair? Let me know if anyone is interested.
