Show me your computer mounts

Postby Jesus_man » Fri Apr 07, 2017 8:01 am

I need to do something about mine! I am tired of it rattling around behind the hole that was intended to be a glove box. Would LOVE to see what you guys have done and glean some ideas!

Thanks!

Hmm, and the computer slides on there? Looks like a nice piece!

The Escape box is what EFI Guy recommends. He helped me pull one for when I do my swap.

Looking at google pics, looks like it's center of the cowl and comes out with two screws?

Image

Sounds like some explorers have the same? Are there good model years to get these from?

The Explorer is a PITA to get the box out of. Look for the Escape. The Explorer is sealed in really well and I've heard people say they used a Sawzall to get them out. The Escape box is like 2x 8mm bolts to remove.

The Explorer boxes are easy. I pulled one in the yard in about 3 minutes last weekend. It was from a late 90s

JD, your Mustang harness is set up to put the PCM in the cab. So one that mounts it in the firewall isn't going to work for you. Also, I'm not sure how well an early EEC-IV PCM will fit in an EEC-V enclosure. They are similar in size but not exact. I would look for something from a PRE-96 ford car that was designed to mount it in the cab.

The Escape box in the diagram is a later PPC type (note the 3 connectors instead of 1) , those boxes are not a close match to the EEC computers at all. The Escape box to use with an Explorer swap will be PRE-2004 ish.

Justin, yours is an Escape box. The Explorer box is a nightmare to remove.

Ok, now to find time to head to the pick-n-pull, or perhaps just make a clam shell type something...

I saw a post on FB, that BC Broncos had a computer mount that put it on the gas pedal bracket like the one I made.

The description is worse than the picture.

It probably is it. The mount was mentioned in a comment, that it came with the EFI kit they bought from BCB. There was no picture on FB either.
