Center bolt rusted into leaf springs

Postby laffycaffi » Tue May 09, 2017 3:27 pm

Looking for tips.

At first I was delighted to get the center nut off the bolt in the middle of the u-bolt cap, lid, or whatever you call it that keeps the leaf springs together. On the driver's side, the thing was just spinning and I ended up cutting off the nut with a hack saw.

But then I realized why: the bold appears to be rusted inside of the leafs.

Any tips for getting it out?

Hammer and punch. Both the bolt and springs are high-carbon steel. You should be able to drive it out. Sometimes it requires a big hammer and a full swing, as a smaller hammer will just mushroom the end of the bolt.
Cummins R2.8 diesel, ZF5, AtlasII, HP44/BB9, ARBs, coiled / linked suspension, 37" KO2s, full cage, bumpers, etc.
