Gregg's Suspension Lift Install

Postby Gregg » Tue May 29, 2012 2:34 pm

I'm sorry this thread is posted so late. Either way I would like to thank the following people for coming up to Longmont for this 3 day installation: Mike, Phil, Jeff, and Matt. Its very clear that without their help I wouldn't have a lift. They brought tools, skills, and extra parts (driveshafts, drop pitman arm) to get me going without waiting to get them in the mail. I had a great time watching, wrenching, learning and laughing. I was also fortunate enough to be able to test this on the MWFR. I thought the new rear and suspension worked out great. Much better than the driver. I'm very excited to get this out again. I posted some pics on the link below. Thanks again for everyone that pitched in.

Day 1: Was finishing the rear (axles, seals, drums, e-brake cables) and installing the rear leaf springs and starting the front
Day 2: was continuing the front suspension and brake lines
Day 3: was connecting the steering

Hang-ups: Rear tank needed to be moved back to clear the diff, Brake line connections needed adapters at the H block, Me backing my rig into the garage w/o brakes and almost over Matt, and Mike's pissy attitude.

Just curious, but why does the rear tank need to be moved? I've installed a few different mfg. lifts and never had to do that shrug

Real nice stance with the new lift and tires. Great looking Bronco.

The front corner of the 23 gallon tank is above the diff. I'm not sure what kind of aftermarket tank it is. We also moved the axle back one inch which made it worse. Sliding the tank back wasn't hard once we figured out what it was hanging up on.

Because it was held on with only one strap that was a bit loose which allowed it to move forward.

Combine that with moving the axle back an inch and you have a tight clearance that looked like it might hit when the rear suspension is compressed.

Jeff, are you talking about Mike's ass crack or the axle/tank move?

Gotcha, that's why I don't like the strap system that is original holding the tank on. Pain in the ass & unreliable.
