Post Red Elephant Hill
So my brother and I ried Red Elephant Hill, on the way to Bill Moore Lake, on July 30th. It started out great... but then the trail got narrow. Too narrow. So we checked the book like 20 times and we were on red elephant hill. But what I dont get is that I was sure others have run it??? After the damage occured, I walked up about .2 miles and there were trees so close together that an ATV might not even make it. The tire tracks just stopped. The trail up to that point was really well traveled like it went some where other than between and tree and a hard place. We happend to meet up with some jeep buddies down from Ft Collins and Boulder. They took us a couple miles further up I-70 to a much milder trail that went all the way to the lake and the loops at the top.

So has anyone ever run red elephant hill? Were we just in the wrong place?

THANKS!

I did it many years ago, but have seen recent trip reports and aside from it getting more difficult and off-camber, it doesn't get that narrow. My guess is you were on the wrong road. There are MANY in that area. If you didn't see the Red Elephant, you missed it..lol! J/K (no elephant)!

Anyway, I remember turning right immediately after we crossed under i-70 and then went thru some residential hoods thinking we were in the wrong spot. Don't remember much about the obstacles, but remember connecting into the BM and Mill creek trails. We ran Mill creek that day as well.

Sounds like you need to try again!
