Jenny Creek on Saturday, July 19th.

Postby Rox Crusher » Sun May 18, 2014 6:43 am

I will get more details posted up closer to the actual event.

For now, plan on leaving early so we can get to the trail ahead of everyone else.

This is a great trail for mildly built rigs. Very scenic and you get to run in the creek in a few places.

Hope to see you there !

I can fire up the bike and ride it in late june and let you know trail condition. I have heard rumors that with the september flooding it is really washed out.

I'll have to step out for this run. Family in town so we will be camping outside of salida.

Howdy guys,

How about we meet in Rollinsville, CO at 8:30 ?

It will take us 45 - 60 minutes to reach Jenny Creek trail head so if we leave Rollinsville by 8:45 we should be on the trail by 9:30 or so.

I will be staying at the Eldora Lodge in Wondervu on Friday night so I am open to earlier or later start time depending on what everyone else has in mind. If anyone else is interested, Eldora Lodge has one room left, they can be reached at 303 642 7181

Post up if you can make it by then or need more time (keep in mind we don't want to hit this trail too much later or we risk trail traffic).

I'm not planning a fast and out, but more of a relaxing pace as I will have my kids with me and they like to stop once in a while. Also, I'm bringing fishing poles so we can try to catch supper at Jenny Lake.

8:30 Sounds fine. Is there parking for a tow rig and trailer by the trail head?
It will be my first time up there slap

there is a small parking lot at the trail head, we would have to be there mighty early to get enough space for it though

I think we could find something in Rollinsville or along the road to the trail head

Looking like my buddy and I will be in. We've both owned our Bronco's since high-school (early 90's). We're going to be camping up near Rollinsville that weekend so we'll just meet up with you there. I'll have at least one of my kids and my buddy's wife will be with him.

I'm definitely in. How long do you guess the run will be? Is it an "in and back" or does the trail dump you somewhere else. Fly fishing?

BTW -- no laughing at me because I'll be in my wife's crazy assed green heep!

Jenny Creek trail ends up by Yankee Doodle Lake, which is what I was planning to fish. Jenny Lake isn't too much further up the road so might try that too.

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=3324 ... 1&t=h&z=15

We've always done it as an "in and back" run, which eats up a good portion of a day, but I think you could continue on to other places.

I don't have anywhere I need to be on Saturday night so I could be talked into almost anything.

We're camping up there Friday and Saturday night. If the road to/from Jenny Creek doesn't shake the Bronco completely apart the idea is to do either West Magnolia or Eldorado Mtn on Sunday. Not sure if either of those are still open but if not, we'll figure something out.

We'll have at least one 6 year old with us and maybe my 3 year old depending if the wife ends up coming along.

Is there any way to get over to Rollin's Pass West from the East? My maps say that there is a locked gate/boulders at the end of the East trail at Jenny Lake. I would love to keep going and make my way down to Winter Park if it's possible.

Jenny Creek on Saturday, July 19th.

You used to be able to 4x4 over the top as the tunnel was collapsed. They put some large boulders and a steel gate on the east side so no way to bypass anymore so you have to drive around to rollinsville or go over through central city.

Went up yesterday in the 4Runner to scout camping spots for next weekend. There are a few spots along the Rollins Pass road where you can drop a tow rig and trailer. The end of Jenny Creek is still snowed under so plan on it being out and back on the trail. There were some folks messing around on it yesterday so maybe there will be a path by next weekend.

Took us an hour from Rollinsville to the trail head in my 97 4Runner. That "road" sure beats the heck out of you.

I'm guessing if we get the rain they are calling for this week it could be pretty muddy through-out the area.

Looking forward to Saturday!

Is this run still a Go? If so, where is the planned meeting location? Maybe it's obvious, but I've never been to Rollinsville.

Yes, still gonna wheel it on Saturday !

Rollinsville used to be a one horse town but I recently heard that the old mare died.

It is located at the intersection of Hwy 119 and 16.

Impossible to miss us, we will be sitting at the intersection.

I know where he lives too. I have good intentions of spending tomorrow morning underneath it to see what good that does. Drew has been talking about going with a 5speed manual (ZF) a lot lately anyway. I will have to look into what all that entails.

Looks like the forecast has improved a bit.

Hopefully it's not a giant mud bog from all the recent rain storms.

I'm going to be camping up there tonight. We'll meet you at the trailhead around 9:30 (I think it will take you an 45-60 minutes to get there from Rollinsville).

My buddy (his name is Larry) will meet you guys in Rollinsville.

Really hoping it's not too muddy up there. Could make camping interesting. :)

Well, didn't make it to the campsite. Blew a wheel bearing outside of Nederland. Will be tomorrow before I can get parts. Will have to fix it tomorrow and hope I can get it home. My buddy will be helping me so we'll have to catch everyone next time.
