modification mishap
2011-03-24_22-18-25_561.jpgSo im putting in a dana 70d and I am paying to much attention to how the d 70 leaf spring mounts are setup that I weld them in at the exact same pinion angle position as they were already mounted as it was stock. Not looking at how it was angled on the 9 inch. Just going off the backing plate mount flat spot On the d 70 and there mounted flush to that flat spot. And the 9 inch is mounted at a angle to its flush point on the backing plate mount.
So I set the axle on the leafs and guess what, my pinion is facing to the ground. S#&%*#&$@$*%. Yeah I think that's how it went. So for you guys doing axle mods what do you think. should i chop the mounts off again or use pinion angle shims. I would have to use 3/4 inch shim to get were I need it. And those blocks will be gone too.

Re: modification mishap
I can't write and send pics at the same time with my stupid phone. It tells me its smart but I would differ. I just needed an extra push to cut them again. I know what I should do but I was also thinking about being lazy. Yeah your right, they need redone.

Re: modification mishap
the trick to use when you do this is to bolt the rear end in. with the spring perches just on the tube you can set the pinion angle. put a few nice tacks on it. pull it and weld er up.

Re: modification mishap
took your advise zoso and set the perches on and set the full weight of the truck on the axle, pitched the pinion to were would be at its best angle for the axle being able to flex around. tacked it and then squirted metal all around. sitting great. now building up some plates.
i also found nice brackets from ebay, 3/16 thick. $26.00 including shipping. comes with 20. good price with lots of uses. made for 1 1/2 tubing but can always be modified for what ever.

Re: modification mishap
Is it just me or does the rear look wider than the front now?
So, are you sitting with 8 lug wheels in the rear and 5s in the front?
