I responded to an add about rebuilding my transmission and he priced me about $250 more to rebuild my '74, then he did for the more recent models. Anyone know what the difference is between our original trannys and more recent c-4s? Also, if its going to cost that kind of green, anyone know of a good tech article on doing it yourself?

I would call a transmission shop and ask them what it would cost to rebuild a C-4 auto and see what they say. They can give you ball park figures. There is a guy here in Colorado Springs that is an EB guy and owns . His name is Don Callendar and is pretty good, but at least he can give you an estimate to do the work.

While it does have some unique parts, rebuilding a Bronco C4 is really no different than rebuilding any C4 from the same year range. A higher cost is only justified if any of the unique hard parts need to be replaced or if the estimate includes removing/replacing the C4.

Just parts for a good quality rebuild will run about $300.
