Check the driver's side kick panel, just below the door strap. In the event you cannot locate it there, you will need to look at the frame. Frame location is on the top of the frame rail, about 6" back from the shock tower.

Re: Searching for the VIN number on the 66.....
I feel like a real dumb ass, but can't seem to find it.....on the top of the frame, side or bottom. Nothing in the doors but fresh paint. I assume, and maybe this is my problem, that I'm looking for a metal tag like dozens of other old and new cars I have owned. Even started looked for it stamped into the frame. Wondering if it was removed during the body work and paint. I've called the fella in nebraska but have not heard back.

Ok. It's official, probably always was, I'm a dumb ass. I guess you can not overestimate the amount of crud that builds up on a frame in 45 years. After considerable MORE scraping and brushing, there it is, about 6-8 inches back of the shock tower on the passenger side. Thanks Frank. I apologize for lowering the collective automobile IQ of the board several points by my drivel. Having 50 year old eyes is not very helpful either.

So you were never able to locate a VIN tag inside the truck?
And don't worry about not being able to locate it easily. Ford didn't exactly make it easy to locate or even do a good job of stamping them most times.

No tags any where. It just took a little more diligent effort by me to find it on the frame.....and reading glasses!! :)
All matches up so at least I know its not hot, and I can get the title transferred and plates.

I found mine in a pile of burnt rubble on the passenger side floor. So assume it was in the glove box. It didn't fair to good either, but still readable. It is a 66 as well.
