 How to keep a Bronco from rusting Figured out how to prevent a Bronco from rusting:
1. Assemble your own power steering hose, having never done it before.
2. Fill your power steering reservoir really, really full.
3. Have said hose slip out of the fitting, blowing at least 1/2 a quart of PS fluid.
I've got PS fluid all over the inside of the engine bay, all 3 bays of my garage (with my Mazda parked in one of them) and all over my workshop. I think the highest dot of fluid I saw was at least 10' up the wall. Turn out 1500 psi can make a mess. At least I've rustproofed the truck for the next couple years.
The good news? I now have power steering. Thanks again to everyone at the shop day for helping make it happen. I think my Bronco wants to be a sports car now.

Re: How to keep a Bronco from rusting I wish brake fluid had the same anti-corrosion properties. I used a pressure bleeder to bleed my brakes, only to have the make-shift lid cut loose & soak my engine compartment with brake fluid. The only thing it did was make my new Bloody Knuckle arms & freshly painted axles & steering look as bad as the rest of my truck. I really thought I had it all cleaned up, until the next morning when I noticed lots of wrinkling going on.
Power steering is in my list of top upgrades done to my truck. What a dream!

Re: How to keep a Bronco from rusting It's amazing. I almost drove my truck into a tree the first time I turned it while moving. The 4x4x2 box is powerful and I can now 1 finger turn my 35x13.5 mudders on dry pavement. It's like magic.

Re: How to keep a Bronco from rusting I ran for a couple years with no PS & 33's. I can't imagine getting into a parking place with 35's and no PS. Your arms must look like Arnold's did in Conan the Barbarian.
Its kind of like having to pull a tooth out of my steering wheel after adding power brakes. Then having to pull another tooth out of my steering wheel 10 years later when I upgraded to hydroboost. I'm not a fast learner. Good thing my family is full of dentists, LOL.

The Terrible One
1972 Sport uncut, 302, C4 with 1974 column , T shift Dana 20, 3.50 gears w/ limited slip, 1966 U13 Roadster kick panel, and factory power steering.

Re: How to keep a Bronco from rusting The best brake fluid cleanup is water and soap. Brake cleaner just does not do it. Brake fluid is some nasty stuff when it sits on paint.
