I'm working on getting my bumper finished up. I'm torn between doing a simple primer and rattlecan paint job or something more durable and exotic. Any ideas? It'll be black and needs to be either incredibly durable or easy to touch up. Cheap is also good.

I was amazed at the selection of finishes at Ace Hardware. They had an awesome looking Grey/Black Hammer finish that would look great. That would match your black cage and add some flair to the great looking rear bumper. I also noticed they had Gold if you are looking for a more Sir Mix-A-Lot theme.

I saw some stuff on TV informercial the other night that was like a rubberized coating. I thought it would look good as well. similar to the herculiner but thicker. Or so it looked on television. I would try the spray in bedliner from walmart. see if it holds up. I am not talking about the one in the can that you put into a sprayer, but the one that is already in a spray can. Otherwise I do not have any other suggestions.

I do agree with powder coating. Its a durable hard protectant, but with tire carriers that seems to be a problem with them flexing and the corners start to crack apart.

Get a good name brand self etching primer (one coat). Then the same brand top coat (two coats). That seems to hold up best for me. Prep is key, so make sure there is no grease on it.

Definitely some kind of rattle can treatment if you plan on using your bronco for more than a costco crawler

Thanks, guys. Looks like I'll go the primer and rattlecan route. I don't think anything will beat the bang for the buck.
